Gartner’s latest report produced on data backup and recovery has caught our eye for all the right reasons.

The 2016 Magic Quadrant for Data Center Backup and Recovery Software report has rated CommVault as number one, Veeam rounded out the top five, and relative newcomer Zerto perfectly matched the analysts’ description of the type of operation that’s rising up to challenge the established players.

CommVault: best in class

Gartner ranked CommVault number one for ‘Completeness of Vision’ and ‘Ability to Execute’, and noted that it offers the widest choice of storage hardware options, covering almost every significant backup software feature. The only negatives were that the software isn’t as easy to use, and its non-US sales channels aren’t as mature as some of its rivals.

That’s where Brennan IT can add value to the process. We’re deeply invested in CommVault and offer the service and support that is needed to take full advantage of CommVault’s class-leading archive, backup, replication, restore and search functions for databases, virtual machines, cloud, applications and converged infrastructure platforms.

Veeam: gaining strength

Some in the industry may have been surprised to see Veeam ranked fifth, but we weren’t. Veeam is a younger operation, dating from 2006, with products that handle backup, disaster recovery and virtualisation for VMware and Hyper-V environments.

We’ve just launched Veeam Cloud Connect, a new service that lets you backup off-site copy to our secure cloud, and also we’re a Veeam Gold ProPartner. That means we can develop solutions to help you reduce costs and risks, and fully realise the promise of virtualisation.

Zerto: the agile challenger

Our third key backup software vendor is Zerto, a relative newcomer to the industry. Founded by a team of industry veterans in 2009, Zerto’s offering is tightly focused on disaster recovery for virtualised infrastructure. Their key innovation is hypervisor-based replication, which enables storage-agnostic replication by moving asynchronous replication from the storage device or server to the hypervisor.

Gartner’s report noted that “more and more organizations are willing to deploy multiple solutions … to improve cost, obtain new capabilities or reduce complexity.” Zerto is perfectly placed to capitalise on this mood, with an innovative, carefully targeted solution that focuses on, and simplifies, and specific feature set.

From our point of view, Gartner’s report confirmed the strength of our approach to focus on these key vendors. Whether you’re in the mid-market, a local corporate or a global enterprise, we’ve got industry-leading solutions to suit. Our partners have proven track records, they’re innovation-focused and best-in-class. We like to think that makes them a perfect fit – certainly for us but, even more importantly, for you.
