Private internet providers have taken the opportunity to offer fast internet installations to thousands of inner city apartments to get ahead of the NBN rollout schedule. The technology offered runs fibre optic cable into apartment complexes and connects to the existing copper network – much like the proposal put forward by the Opposition Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull.
With the election less than a week away, and different policies on the NBN being presented by their side of government, only one thing is certain – Australia’s telecommunications networks will receive a massive boost in the coming years. The only questions remain is how long it will take, and how much it will cost. Which in the scheme of things, does suggest that if you are waiting for the rollout – especially if you’re far down the list – you may be waiting some time. At the bare minimum, Labour suggest that the rollout will take a total of 10 years, with the Coalition promising six.
