Modoras Financial Planning

When Modoras decided to outsource their infrastructure, they wanted a comprehensive, well-managed solution with the ability to scale.

The Situation

Established in 1984, Modoras is a privately owned wealth management business which offers strategic advice to individuals, SMEs and organisations looking to make smarter choices about their money.

With 30 staff and a head office in Brisbane, Modoras is in an expansion phase – recently branching out via a Melbourne acquisition, with Sydney soon to follow.

On the IT front, Modoras were using an internally managed infrastructure, with six physical servers providing a range of document, email and custom software services. But with the business expanding, Associate Director Jita Sarai decided to make a change.

“It’s a changing world, and we wanted to focus on what we do best,” Sarai explains. “When we started looking, a cloud-based solution wasn’t a must-have – we simply wanted the best available solution that would allow us to easily expand.”

With a custom, internally developed financial software system named Evolution comprising an important part of Modoras’ operations, Sarai says that any new solution had to deliver an infrastructure that could support Modoras across the board. “Our ultimate requirement was a simple one – to have the best of the best,” he says.

The Solution

Already a customer of Brennan IT’s internet service, Modoras presented Brennan IT with detailed explanation of their infrastructure needs.

“Brennan IT proposed that we move to a private cloud, using Infrastructure-as-a-Service”, Sarai explains. “We liked the fact that it was comprehensive solution, covering everything from WAN connectivity to support”.

Now in place, Modoras’ cloud solution has been the mainstay of the company’s operations for more than six months. Brennan IT’s Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) solution delivers Modoras’ email, document, MYOB, accounting and financial software services throughout the business via Citrix clients. A Private IP WAN securely connects Modoras’ sites and offices, while an Ultimate Care agreement provides the company with 24/7 support with proactive monitoring where and as needed.

A comprehensive migration project also ensured a smooth transition from old to new. Sarai says that since going live, the IaaS virtual platform has been highly reliable, hosting Modoras’ custom applications without issue. The layers of redundancy built into the service, coupled with stringent Service Level Agreements, serve to guarantee reliability of performance.

The Benefits

Jita Sarai says that the biggest benefit of the solution is that Modoras no longer needs to expend time and effort managing their IT needs.

“Using the cloud means that we just rely on Brennan IT to deliver”, he says. “It’s one less distraction for the business, allowing us to concentrate on developing our operations”.

Sarai says that another important benefit is the fact that Brennan IT bears total responsibility for the infrastructure. “With internally managed IT, there’s nowhere to go if problems aren’t being solved”, he observes. “But with Brennan IT, I can pick up the phone and get service that’s accountable. Every problem that’s cropped up so far has been quickly solved”.

With the cloud in place, Modoras is confident that its growth strategy is also well supported, with the infrastructure able to will scale efficiently as required.

Furthermore, Sarai argues that partnering with a provider like Brennan IT creates a competitive advantage. “For Modoras, the depth of Brennan IT’s offerings mean that we’ll always have access to the solutions that are ‘the best of the best’ as we grow, making us more agile and keeping us up to date,” he says.

Asked whether he would recommend Brennan IT services, Sarai states that he already has. “Brennan IT’s technical analysts and account managers have been phenomenal,” he adds. “They communicate in a language we understand, there’s real depth to their experience and when they say they’ll take care of something they do. They also work around the clock. Before and during the Brisbane floods for example, Brennan IT provided regular calls and updates, as you’d expect, to assure us that our infrastructure was alright.”

In conclusion, Sarai says that, when electing to outsource, Modoras had high expectations. “With the cloud, we think the high-performance service that will allow us to grow has been delivered,” he says.
